I mentioned last week that I was heading to KC Fashion Week over the weekend. I really didn't know what to expect, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. It was such a fun night out full of new experiences. I loved meeting new people, seeing a whole other side of the fashion world, and just being myself (not Mom) for the night. I'll definitely be posting more about it soon, but today I'm sharing what I wore.

Normally I don't put this much thought into an outfit, but I think for this rare event it was to be expected, and it worked out. I was a little overwhelmed when deciding what to wear, but I tried not to let it get to me. I've learned it never really matters as much as I think it does by the time the event is over. I really wanted to wear these leopard booties, but I knew I needed to tone them down or I wouldn't feel like myself. All black was what I had in mind, but I wanted black with edgy details to match the boots. I ended up thrifting this boxy, vintage black top and paired it with black knit pants. The pants have really cool zippered pocket details which peeked out perfectly from under my top. Instead of a red lip, I went with a lilac one which made the outfit feel more like spring despite the black from head to almost toe.

As far as accessories, I custom made some leather earrings for myself out of a cognac brown leather and had Soren make me an extra wide cuff to match. They both turned out amazingly and played perfectly with the boots and the black.

All in all, I felt great the whole night. A low heel was definitely the way to go! I was comfortable, I knew I could walk in them, and I didn't feel like an impostor teetering around in high heels all night.

What events do you stress about dressing for? Are you an outfit planner or do you grab and go?

  1. Please make those earrings to purchase! Love them.

  2. OH YES!! Love the black with the shoes... and I won't lie... I'm so glad you said what your lip color is because I probably would have asked anyway. It's gorgeous!

  3. I second the earrings request. Would love to own a pair of those!

  4. I love those boots! I can't believe they're thrifted. You're outfit looked great!!

  5. Fab outfit, those boots do all the talking, and the accessories are perfect. I love doing things that take me out of Mama-mode, much as I love my babes, but there's a real need to just be me too. Even getting dressed in the morning ticks that box sometimes! I'd like to be a grab and go girl, and look insouciantly amazing every time, but I'm probably more of a planner and occasional grab and go. You look great, and sounds like you had an amazing time. Look forward to reading about it.

  6. Your hair and makeup are flawless, and those earrings are wonderful! Great look.

  7. I love your makeup as well, but the boots! I need to go to more thrift stores! You look great!
