ONE little MOMMA: January Beauty

January Beauty

As you know a few weeks ago I made a dramatic change to my hair. It is quite a bit shorter and I've been spending a lot of time learning how to make it work for me and how I like to style it. I still feel like I don't quite have a handle on it- (it's tricky!) but soon I'll get some tutorials going and share what I've learned.

Another part of changing my hair has been adjusting my makeup to fit. With a long pixie makeup is must to make up for the less feminine hairstyle. For Christmas I asked for mostly makeup so today I'm sharing a few new products that I've tried recently.

1. NYX HD Studio Primer- I wanted to try a new primer out so I decided to give this NYX primer a try. I have previously been using Revlon PhotoReady Primer and it worked okay. Unfortunately I don't think the NYX is any better than the Revlon primer. And it costs more. Both primers work better than no primer, but I do find that by the end of the day I need to touch up my foundation and blush. I probably should have just bought the Urban Decay makeup primer. It costs twice as much- but I've heard amazing things about it and I'm sure it would go a long way.

2bareMinerals bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation- This foundation has been all the range in the blogging world lately. You may have noticed quite a few bloggers talking about this new foundation so I decided to see what the buzz was about. Previously I have only ever used Cover Girl foundation, I had high expectations. And I feel- meh. I like how it feels on my skin, and I do think it is brightening. I don't think it goes on flawless- even with a Beauty Blender. It still sits on top of my skin and looks like makeup. I've heard good things about the Bare Minerals brush they sell with it so maybe it is my application technique that I don't love.

3. SEPHORA COLLECTION Double Contouring Cream Blush- This product is actually one of my new favorites. I picked up this cream blush on a whim and it is so pretty. The color looks very bright, but when you apply it minimally it totally glows. I love how warm and bright my cheeks (and face) look with this color. I also have tried it on my lips with some balm and it's gorgeous. This is definitely my new favorite blush.

4. Real Techniques Powder Brush- I'm a big fan of Real Techniques brushes. They are fantastic quality, especially for the price. Santa brought me this brush in my stocking and I'm so happy to finally have it in my collection. It is perfect for applying powder and bronzer. I have this set and this set, but the Powder Brush is a great addition.

So, those are my picks this month. I'll share more in a couple of weeks and yes- I plan on doing some makeup tutorials. Would you prefer photo or video tutorials? What products are you loving lately?

  1. Try the bareminerals with the brush that you can buy with it. It makes a world of difference on how it goes on! I tried it at first with just my beauty blender and it just doesn't work as great. So I highly recommend you try the brush. The design of it is what makes the makeup goes on so much differently I think.

  2. I love my bareMinerals serum foundation and my Real Techniques brush. I keep hearing about the NYX primer. I need to check it out. =)

  3. Which Cover Girl foundation do you usually use? Right now, CG's Ready Set Gorgeous is ALL over the beauty blogging world. I tried it, and it's amazing - especially if you have any oil issues like an oily T zone. LOVE IT.

  5. Definitely photo tutorials! I can't stand watching online videos and I mostly check your site at work so it's definitely a no-no. Love the NYX makeup, I just discovered it! They have a similar (probably cheaper!) cream blush that I have really been loving.

  6. I agree with the photo tutorials. I read your blog from my office everyday- and I can't really listen to a video in the middle of the day.

  7. I love your make up! And I feel like I always want to wear more make up when I first get my hair colored a different way. Bronzer is always my go-to. I just always feel more confident with it on. I would love to know if/what you use for your brows - they always look great! I love that you are going to do tutorials! very fun!

  8. I've found that while foundation primer is key to getting your foundation to look great (I personally <3 the Mary Kay Foundation Primer; inexpensive and is like silk), the best way to make it all last is to use a makeup setting spray at the end. Ive used quite a few, but am sold on the Urban Decay Up All Nighter Spray. It works, hands down and is worth every penny. :)

  9. When will you have the watches available in your store again?
