We had a great Thanksgiving- although we weren’t sure it was going to happen on Thursday. My poor Mom has been sick for months with one thing after another and still had the flu on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We changed plans to do the dinner on Saturday, and I won’t lie, I was selfishly bummed about it. Happily early Thursday morning my parents called to say Mom was feeling better. Dinner was on for 5. And the mad cooking/baking rush began.
My pies were really fun to make. This was my best braided crust yet! Kelser and Leah (my brother’s dog) are best friends at dinner. Kesler is always feeding her his food.
Both of the kids skipped the pie and went straight for the ice cream. Can’t go wrong there.
After dinner and putting the kids to bed I headed out for a little Black Friday Shopping. Honestly I hate that the stores open so early on Thursday, but it was nice not to be out so late. I met some friends at Target and hit up Wal-Mart alone afterwards. Neither store was that bad and because I only go for the movies and the games, I get what I want.
My favorite Black Friday shopping was a JoAnn’s. I have never been before but I braved it with a friend and had a great time. Everyone there was buying creative stuff and project supplies so there was this commonality of creative types- not the consumerism. I bought a ton of fabric to make baby blankets, my holiday party dress and a few other items. This is our combined cart by the way, not just mine. If only the cats hadn’t peed all over my fabric as soon as I got home. Prewashing suddenly became a must.
I shared this a few weeks ago over at Sugar Bee Crafts, but haven't share it with you all yet. Have you been loving all of the ways to style socks this fall? Who knew there were so many ways?
Socks are a fun way to add some character, add a pop of color or pattern and to just make your outfit more interesting. You can pair socks with any boot height. I love how these polka dot socks look peeking out from ankle boots. Another cute way to pair them with ankle boots is to scrunch them over denim leggings- see below.
Mid-height boots work great with socks too. This look works with pants, leggings or bare legs. The tall socks really elongate the boot instead of the boot cutting her mid-calf. How great are the burnt orange and the gray together too?!?
Welcome to What Kids Wore Wednesday Link Party! I love kids clothing and shopping for my boys. So many other mommas do too that I think there should be a place to share it! Feel free to share what you have styled, thrifted, sewn or repurposed for your kiddos!
This week's style inspiration from ONE little BELT features the newest lavender sparkle belt in our shop. I love how much this outfit says holiday and winter, but it is not your typical festive colors. The boots are fabulous with the fringe and I love a good southwestern print.
What did my kids wear this week? We had family photos (finally the weather cooperated!!) and the boys looked adorable. I just love coordinating their outfits without matching them. Mandy of Sugar Bee Photos did such a great job on our photos! I love how they turned out!

This week we got our edited family photos back and I am so happy with how they turned out. The session went so smoothly that I had high hopes for the photos. I couldn't be happier with them. Mandy from Sugar Bee Photos did such a great job! Be prepared for a photo overload!
For our family’s outfits I decided on neutrals with an emphasis on texture and varying patterns. I think my outfit is super easy to recreate. Throw a fur vest over a chambray top and add black jeans and tall brown boots.
I really enjoy making a lot of the items that I decorate with. What I love most is designing them and as long as they are simple to do, I love making them too. I had some craft supplies out the other day at playgroup and came up with this quick little framed Christmas decoration using what I had on hand.
Supplies: Hot glue, scrap of burlap, multi-sized pearl beads, picture frame without the glass
I started out marking the three corners of my Christmas tree shape with permanent marker on my burlap. I didn’t want the marker to be seen through the beads so I didn’t risk outlining the entire shape.
Then I started gluing. I had 4-5 different sized and shaped pearl beads and mixed them all throughout the project. The colors varied between cream and white which I also appreciated.
Just keep gluing in small sections.
The finished tree. I have thought about adding a blingy broach as a ‘star’ to the top of the tree and still might if I find one. At this point I found the 8x10 frame I wanted and used the backing to trace and cut my burlap to shape. Then I hot glued it to the backing.
The finished product! I have used it for table décor and now have it on my Christmas mantle. I love how simple, cheap, and, chic it turned out!
Happy Cyber Monday! Just one more day left of the crazy shopping weekend!! We have a few more girls belts in the shop this week. This lavender sparkle belt is adorable an addition to any toddler’s outfit.

Friday’s are the day where I share a glimpse of what’s going on with our family. I love the micro-blogging approach of Instagram- it allows us to share such candid, small moments!
I picked Soren up at work for a date on Friday night. We went boot shopping and for some reason he didn’t think it was a date- just an errand! The nerve! We still had a good time and maybe even success. We’ll see if the boots I ordered work out.
The kittens have been pretty spoiled around here. Soren makes them scrambled eggs and shares his ice cream with them. For some reason they now think that anytime we eat, they need a taste. (Thanks a lot Soren!) Kesler and Gunner shared some oatmeal for breakfast- he doesn’t mind sharing.
Saver’s had a half price day last week and we took advantage of it. I went with a friend and we helped each other shop and entertain the kiddos. I found a lot of great things for me, Easton, Kesler and even a future baby girl! (Still have fingers crossed for this time around!)
If you follow me on Instagram or FB then you saw the debate last week about the wedge sneakers that I couldn't decide on. I bought them at TJ Maxx and took them home to feel them out. They are pretty out there, even for me so I put it up for a poll. My husband said they looked cooler off than on and voted no. A lot of you voted yes.
I ended up returning them because I just wasn't 100% sold on them, but I think we'll be seeing more of these in the future- maybe even on me. I did some research and found a few more sneaks that I think have potential. If you go for them, I'd style them with leggings, rolled skinny jeans, and maybe something a little more feminine to oppose the sportiness.
